VITICULTURE / VINIFICATION
The vineyards are located on typical terrace
soil with different layers. The first layer is rich in river pebbles.
The second layer is made of sand and the third layer is limestone.
This soil is poor in organic material but very warm due to the mixture
in first stratums of sand and pebbles.
Under the protection of the fertile waters of the Duero, the Rueda
D.O. is located at a height of 2,395 feet, subject to very long
and cold winters and short springs with late frosts and hot summers.
The difference in temperature between
day and night, typical of high lands, helps balance sugars and acidity,
thanks to the cold nights. Sunshine is over 2,600 hours per year.
Gran Familia is a classic Rueda dry white wine made in a fresh style,
fermented in stainless steel tanks with no oak aging. Further character
is added through battonage, during which the wine is stirred on
the lees (or yeast).
