WINEMAKER: Silvia Herrera Redondo
Bodegas Tagonius, located in Madrid, Spain,
produces the wines created by Silvia Herrera Redondo. The winemaking
tradition in the Madrid area goes back to the 13th century, when
the red wines made here were already known for their strength. However,
few of the Madrid wines were exported outside of the DO. Today in
the hands of a new generation of winemakers Madrid wines are contemporary,
innovative and internationally sought after.
Bodegas Tagonius is located at an elevation of 1,500 ft. The vines
are on average 15 years old. Soil is rich in clay, with notable
components of lime and PH acid. The constant summer sun facilitates
the growing of grapes with high sugar content and good levels of
acidity. Grapes were hand-picked in September 2004.
Ratings/Reviews

The Independent Consumer's Guide to Fine Wines
Rating: 87 points
The 2004 Alta Marca, a blend of 70% Tempranillo, 20% Syrah, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, is deep purple in color and offers plenty of black currants in the nose. On the palate currant and spice flavors have excellent depth and a supple texture. There is a lot of wine here for the money.— Jay Miller (Feb 2007)
